Protesting Against Disconnecting

Most fights are protests against disconnection. To feel suddenly cut off from a partner, disconnected, is terrifying.  Love is a survival imperative that we experience from the cradle to grave. When these safe connections seemed lost, partners go into fight or flight mode.

This is when the desperate need for an emotional response ends in blaming, and the desperate fear of rejection and loss ends in withdrawal.
